We are seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD student to join our team as a Research Intern. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge research in the fields of Large Language Models (LLMs), Python Machine Learning. The successful candidate will collaborate with a team of experienced researchers and engineers to tackle real-world challenges and contribute to the advancement of AI technologies.

As a Research Science PhD Intern, you will conduct research and leads research collaborations that yield new insights, theories, analyses, data, algorithms, and/or prototypes that advance the state-of-the-art of computer science and engineering, as well as general scientific knowledge. You will formulate research problems in an area of study and initiates the design, development, execution and implementation of a research agenda to further academic knowledge and close identified gaps and provide expertise to product or business groups and may create long-term business opportunities through research outcomes, but not responsible for addressing immediate product needs or demonstrating a clear path to product.

Qualifications

Required: Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field.
  • Strong background in LLMs
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python.
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks and libraries
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with one or more general purpose programming languages including: C/C++, Java, MATLAB or Python, ideally languages such as pyTorch, Tensorflow and other deep learning toolkits
  • Experience (classroom or work related) in one or more areas of computer science, such as Natural Language Understanding, Neural Networks, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Algorithmic Foundations of Optimization, Data Science, Privacy, etc.
  • Experience (classroom or work related) in one or more areas of computer science, such as Natural Language Understanding, Neural Networks, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Algorithmic Foundations of Optimization, Data Science, Privacy or other relevant research focuses.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and improve performance of advanced algorithms on large-scale datasets and cutting-edge research in machine intelligence and machine learning applications.
  • Implement prototypes of scalable systems in AI applications.
  • Collaborate closely with team members on developing systems from prototyping to production level.
  • Develop solutions for real world, large-scale problems.
  • Under instruction from others, research new tools, technologies, and methods being used in the research community and contribute your knowledge around a specialized tool/method to support planning for research projects.
  • Gain an understanding of their research as it relates to Microsoft products or business groups and assists in technology transfer attempts, participating on standards organizations, filing patents, authoring white papers, developing or maintaining tools/services for internal Microsoft use, or consulting for product or business groups.
